Speaker profile - Lionel is a Fellow of the ACCA and was President of the ACCA South Wales Members' Network during 2005-06.  He is also an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.

In August 2008 he retired as Head of Professional Programmes and principal lecturer in taxation at the University of Wales, Newport after working there for over 30 years although he returned in January 2009 as a visiting tutor to teach Advanced Taxation on their Platinum status ACCA course.

In September 2008 he joined Marsh Bessant, a two-partner ACCA practice based in Newport, South Wales as a tax consultant.

He was a member of ACCA's Vision2007 Steering Group which oversaw the design of the new ACCA professional qualification introduced in 2007 and has twice been a member of ACCA's Exam Review Board.  He is part of the marking team for ACCA's CAT Taxation exam paper.

In 2006 he was presented with an ACCA inaugural global 'Achievement Award' for his contribution to the development of the accountancy profession and in the 2008 New Year's Honours he was awarded an 'MBE' for his services to the accountancy profession in South Wales.

Lionel is married with two grown up sons and lives in Ebbw Vale where the best supported rugby club in Wales continues to thrive.
